KATHMANDU, June 13: CPN-UML lawmaker Dr Bhim Rawal has said that parliament should be clarified regarding any confusions about the upcoming visit to the USA by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Speaking at a parliament meeting on Monday, lawmaker Rawal sought clarification regarding the preparation made for PM Deuba’s visit to the USA. He accused the current coalition government of violating Nepal's non-aligned and independent foreign policy. Dr Rawal objected to the visiting American General’s statement made earlier, remarking that the Nepal Army was a reliable ground force.

Dr Rawal said that before Prime Minister Deuba's visit to the US, Prime Minister's wife Arju Rana had gone to India for advice. He also accused the PM of secretly preparing to sign the State Partnership Program during his visit to the US. According to Rawal, PM Deuba’s wife Arju is currently in India for a consultation on the State Partnership Program.

Stating that the plan to bring the Utah National Guard to Nepal under the State Partnership Agreement is a serious issue of concern, Rawal demanded clarification from the PM regarding the preparations being made for it. He said the committee should not be briefed by the foreign minister on the visit to the United States. He said that the state partnership agreement was being prepared as per the plan to bring the Utah National Guard of the US Army to Nepal right under the nose of the ruling coalition.
