Police arrest owner of Lumbini Sugar Mill for not paying farmers

KATHMANDU, Dec 31: The Police on Thursday arrested Manoj Agrawal, proprietor of Lumbini Sugar Mill, on the charge of not paying the price of sugarcane to farmers.  Lumbini Sugar Mill owes nearly Rs 100 million to the farmers.

KATHMANDU, Dec 31: The Police on Thursday arrested Manoj Agrawal, proprietor of Lumbini Sugar Mill, on the charge of not paying the price of sugarcane to farmers.  Lumbini Sugar Mill owes nearly Rs 100 million to the farmers.


Superintendent of Police, Ishwor Karkee, spokesperson for Metropolitan Police Crime Division, said the division in association with the District Police Office, Parsa, arrested Agrawal from Birgunj and handed him over to the District Police Office, Nawalparasi, for further action. “The sugar mills which duped the farmers by not paying them for their produce have now come under the watch of the state,” Karkee told Republica.

According to him, the police will arrest the owners of other sugar mills too, who have been refusing to clear the outstanding dues of the farmers.
