Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs, on December 15, directed Nepal Police to arrest owners of the sugar mills if they fail to clear dues of cane farmers.

According to police, Agrawal has paid only Rs 90,000 to the cane farmers out of Rs 40 million.

As sugar mills have not cleared dues worth millions of rupees, farmers from Tarai have been staging protests in the federal capital Kathmandu, demanding their dues be cleared at the earliest.
