A decision to this effect was taken jointly by two umbrella organizations of private schools in the country -- Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON) and National Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (N-PABSON)-- alleging that the government failed to address their concerns.

The schools had long been demanding the government to provide relief packages for the losses caused due to the Covid-19 lockdown. But as the government did not give any heed to their demand, they decided to discontinue the online classes as schools are having tough time to pay teachers and staff involved in conducting such classes

The schools have decided to send them on unpaid leave until the next notice. “It is better to stop the online classes rather than conducting the classes amid financial and administrative constraints,” said a joint press statement issued by them.

Amid concerns that the education of children was badly affected due to the closure of schools for a long time, the majority of private schools in Kathmandu Valley and beyond had started online classes for their students since a month ago. The schools will reopen only after the situation gets better for resuming physical classes, according to the press statement.
