There are 93 members in the provincial assembly where the ruling alliance led by the UML has a majority. On this basis, it is seen that UML will stake claim to the post of Chief Minister on behalf of the alliance. Two parties of the alliance - UML and Maoist Center - are claiming the post of Chief Minister in Province 1. Former Internal Affairs Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki from UML and Economic Affairs and Planning Minister Indra Angwo from the Maoist Center have staked their claims to the post of Chief Minister.
