KATHMANDU, Aug 1: Following recommendations from the District Security Committee, Nepal Police has deployed one Personal Security Officer to each of the members of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) since yesterday.
“Amid potential threats, we’ve provided one PSO to each of the member,” SSP Shailesh Thapa, spokesperson of Nepal Police said. “Of the 15 members, we’ve provided additional security to seven. The remaining eight, including the chairperson, Laxman Lal Karna declined the security.”
Ex-ambassadors call for evaluating ambassadors’ performance
A hearing to appoint the Chief Justice is scheduled at 3:30 PM today, according to Karna.
On July 30, the Committee failed to deide whether or not to endorse acting Chief Justice Deepak Raj Joshee as the country’s new chief justice.
According to a source, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is not in favor of Joshee whereas main opposition Nepali Congress has asked for more time for the discussion.
