Punishment of 11 inmates in Chitwan and six inmates in Taplejung commuted on Democracy Day

CHITWAN, Feb 19: On the occasion of Democracy Day, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari commuted the sentences of 501 prisoners across the country and granted amnesty to 12 others at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

CHITWAN, Feb 19: On the occasion of Democracy Day, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari commuted the sentences of 501 prisoners across the country and granted amnesty to 12 others at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. 


The prisoners were released on Democracy Day today despite the President's Office releasing the information regarding the release of prisoners on Friday.

A total of 11 inmates in Chitwan Prison have also been pardoned. Of them, five are from vehicle death cases (two from Nawalparasi East, two from Chitwan and one from India) and two from duty life cases (one each from Chitwan and Makwanpur).


Similarly, six prisoners who have served 50 percent of the sentencing and demonstrated good conduct in prisons have been released from Taplejung prison. According to Kulendra Khawas, Chief of the Taplejung Prison Branch, the remaining sentence of the prisoners, who have served 50 percent of the sentencing till February 18, has been commuted and they are released from the jail.
