KATHMANDU, Jan 5: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Wednesday dismissed rumors of serious health hazards and even death if anyone receives calls from red-colored number.

Following the recent rumors and related news items that went viral in social networking sites, the police have also detained two singers - Prashana Pandey and Dipak Barayeli - for sharing the fake call posts with 'terror' alerts on their Facebook pages.

During investigation, it was revealed that the calls displayed in red number on mobile screen was all fake ones and the rumor was the result of downloading the fake call application in android cell phones. The mobile application that is easily available in Google App Store displays colors, ringtones and timing of the calls as per the choice of the mobile users.

"It is proved to be fake and we urge mobile users not to be terrorized by the rumors," CIB Director DIG Nawaraj Silwal said during a press conference organized at the CIB office, Maharajgunj.

The two singers accepted their involvement in sharing the red number alerts and claimed their innocence.

"I was not aware about the effects of the red number alerts but it was my fault to display the red alerts and make calls to others," Barayeli said during the press conference. Pandey also realized her mistake and informed that she shared the red alert calls in social networking sites to caution people.

CIB has also alerted to not to download such applications and create rumors in the social networking sites. The two singers were released the same day on condition that they should be present at the CIB office as and when required. Police said that the two will be charged after the investigation was over.
