KATHMANDU, March 28: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Pashupati Murarka, has said that he would lobby with the concerned government agencies to make postal service exempt from VAT.

Speaking at the 22nd annual general meeting (AGM) of Nepal Courier Service Association, Murarka said that the government organizations should government agencies do not have to pay VAT for postal service. “The FNCCI will pile pressure on the government to exempt VAT on postal service for private sector as well,” he said, adding that the FNCCI will include the issue in its suggestions to the government for the upcoming budget.

Stating that drug smugglers were abusing courier service, Murarka urged the government to install modern X-ray at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and other border points with top priority.

Likewise, President of Courier Service Association of Nepal, Rameshwor Shiva, said that courier service was facing difficulty in the lack of business doing environment. “Many entrepreneurs are leaving the courier service sector. The government needs to create environment conducive for courier service providers to stay in their business,” he said, expressing objection to the decision of the traffic police to prohibit courier vehicles from operating inside Ring Road between 10 am and 5 pm. “We transport sensitive documents like medical report of patients from one place to another. The decision to restrict movement of our vehicles has adversely affected our business,” he added.
