Renowned educationist Angur Baba Joshi passes away

KATHMANDU, June 20: Renowned educationist and social activist Angur Baba Joshi passed away on Saturday. She was 89.

 KATHMANDU, June 20: Renowned educationist and social activist Angur Baba Joshi passed away on Saturday. She was 89.


Family sources said Joshi passed away while undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital in Bansbari.

Joshi pursued her higher education at Oxford University in Britain. She was the first woman in Nepal to receive higher education degrees from abroad.  


After she returned home following the completion of her studies, she started her career as the principal of Padma Kanya College - the first women's college in Nepal - in Kathmandu. Late Joshi worked in the capacity of the first woman principal in Nepal for   decades. 


She was also the chairperson of many social service organizations including Nepal Women's Organizations and Tara Gaon Development   Board.


Late Joshi is also the author of a number of books and articles related to spirituality, morality and purity in human thought, words and behavior. She is survived by a son, two daughters and   grandchildren.
