KATHMANDU, Jan 17: An eight-month-old calf of the endangered one-horned rhino has been killed by a tiger in Bardiya National Park (BNP). The tiger attack took place on Sunday night.
The calf succumbed to injury at at around 3:40 am on Monday morning, according to the park officials.
According to the park's warden Ramesh Kumar Thapa, the calf belonged to a rhino that was transferred to the BNP from Chitwan National Park about 11 months ago.
“We have deployed technician on the incident site. They have already verified that the rhino calf died from tiger attack,” said Thapa, adding that tiger footprints were also found in the incident site.
Tiger attack is taken as a predator attacking its prey, which is a natural phenomenon, said Thapa. “Although we deploy security against poaching, we have no ways to prevent such natural attacks,” he added.
