KATHMANDU, August 7: An emergency meeting of Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s central working committee on Monday decided to expel nearly two dozen leaders. The decision comes a day after the party suffered a vertical split nine months after its unification.

The splinter group led by RPP senior leader Pashupathi Shumshere JB Rana has announced to form a party named Rastriya Prajatantra Party Democratic.

In a statement, RPP spokesperson Bhuwan Pathak informed that the meeting decided to expel 19 leaders including Deepak Bohara and Sunil Bahadur Thapa.

The meeting, chaired by party chairman Kamal Thapa, decided to keep the doors open for leaders who want to ‘return home’.

“Keeping party’s unity and larger interest into consideration, the meeting urges those central committee members and parliamentarian leaders who ignorantly and mistakenly lost their path to return to mainstream of the party,” reads the statement.

In the wake of the vertical split, the governing Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) have started exploring possibility of endorsing the constitution amendment bill languishing in the parliament.  Leaders of NC and Maoist Center said that they now look close to two-thirds majority in the parliament required to endorse the bill. Splinter faction led by Rana has nearly two dozen lawmakers.
