KATHMANDU, July 7: The Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has decided to sack its leader Sarita Giri from the post of lawmaker for breaching the party whip to withdraw her amendment registered at the Parliament Secretariat against the government’s second amendment to the constitution.
Similarly, the JSP also decided to remove her as the general member of the party, according to Mohammad Istiyak Rai, a leader of the party.
The constitution amendment, which was aimed at updating the new administrative and political map of the country on the national emblem, was unanimously endorsed by the House of Representatives on June 18.
Contrary to her party's official position on the endorsement of the new map, lawmaker Giri registered a separate amendment proposal at the Parliament Secretariat.

Giri sought to retain the old map on the national emblem arguing that there was no clear evidence to claim Lipmiyadhura, Lipu Lekh and Kalapani as Nepali territories.
However, HoR Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota scrapped Giri's amendment proposal in line with the parliamentary regulations, which state that any amendment to a bill cannot challenge the primary spirit of the bill itself.
Then, infuriated lawmaker Giri shunned the House after Speaker Sapkota announced that her amendment proposal had been scrapped.
Amid criticism, the JSP had formed a three-member task force led by one of its central members, Ram Sahaya Yadav, to investigate Giri . The panel recently submitted its report to the top leadership of the party recommending to the party to sack her from the posts of parliamentarian and general member of the party.
Giri represented the Janata Samajbadi Party in the lower house of parliament under the proportional representation (PR) category.
