SC seeks written response from govt for not submitting reports on time

KATHMANDU, May 3: The Supreme Court (SC) has sought a written response from the government on its failure to submit its reports on the implementation status of various international conventions and treaties related to human rights that Nepal is party to.

KATHMANDU, May 3: The Supreme Court (SC) has sought a written response from the government on its failure to submit its reports on the implementation status of various international conventions and treaties related to human rights that Nepal is party to. 


A single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada on Monday issued a show cause order in the name of the Government of Nepal, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, National Human Rights Commission and others concerned, asking them to submit a written reply within 15 days.

The SC issued the show cause order with priority in response to a writ petition filed seeking clear law, reporting with policy mandate and establishment of a follow-up mechanism to fulfill the international human rights obligations as per the ratification of various international treaties and conventions.


Founder Chairperson of Justice and Rights (Jury Nepal), Advocate Raju Prasad Chapagain and others had filed the writ petition at the apex court on April 28.
