BIRATNAGAR, Nov 18: A security committee meeting was held here today in order to hold the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and provincial assembly in a peaceful, fair and fearless manner.
Commissioner at the Election Commission Narendra Dahal inaugurated the meeting of the province no. 1 security committee formed by the Home Ministry under the HoR and State Assembly member election 2017.
Govt endorses security plan for local polls
Matters relating to holding the elections in a free and fair manner, experience of the past local level elections, exchange of experience from neighbouring districts, necessary support in enforcement of security in the districts, security coordination, providing the people a sense of security, current state of security in the districts are being discussed at the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Home Secretary Mohan Krishna Sapkota pointed out the need to address the current security challenges with a new strategy.
Joint Secretary Nirmala Adhikari urged the security mechanism to help hold the elections in a fearless atmosphere by exhibiting its ability in the current challenging situation.
Inspector General of Nepal Police Prakash Aryal, IG of Armed Police Force Singha Bahadur Shrestha, Chief of National Investigation Department Dilip Raj Regmi, Major General Purna Chandra Thapa, eastern regional administrator Rajeswar Man Singh and CDOs of all the 12 districts in the province, and other security stakeholders are taking part in the day-long meeting.
