KATHMANDU, May 26: Senior leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Jhala Nath Khanal has drawn the attention of the government to reach political consensus in a bid to settle the conflict-era cases as early as possible.
Khanal, who is also the former prime minister, urged the government to expedite the process to resolve the war-era cases taking into consideration the concerns of the conflict victims.
Speaking at a program organized by Conflict Victim Common Platform in the capital, Khanal urged the government committees to recommend the office bearers for two transitional justice mechanisms —Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons—without government's influence.

Khanal stressed the need for concluding the transitional justice process without further delay keeping in mind the Supreme Court verdicts and suggestions from the conflict victims.
Speaking during the event, Nepali Congress lawmaker Radhe Shyam Adhikari urged the government to provide justice to the conflict victims without any further delay. “The government should go ahead for the transitional justice taking suggestions from the conflict victims,” he said.
He accused the government of delaying making amendment in the laws related to transitional justice. “It is disappointing that the government has not even provided relief to conflict victims,” Adhikari observed.
The lawmaker also stressed the need for having a comprehensive discussion with the conflict victims before providing justice to them.
