Souls of my city: A man of commitment and hard work

Manju Sunuwar, a burn victim, sat in front of the saloon mirror brushing her hair as her sister,  Deepa, narrated her story. Manju barely spoke to me; she was of an introvert nature. Nonetheless, her gestures suggested that she was a good person to be around. As we continued with our conversation, her nods gradually evolved into words and later she even explained the details of the unfortunate event.

“We have a ritual of burning rice at night. I was holding the oil lamp with the rice when my cousins started arguing with me (for the lamp). This is when my woolen hat caught on fire, and also burned my face.” The 22-year-old did not remember any pain at the moment but now feels bad while seeing the damage on her face.
