Souls of my city: Proud to be a farmer

Astha Maya Laawat is a 58-year-old farmer from Jhor, Tokha in Kathmandu. At the age of nine, she lost her father and her family faced a financial crisis which eventually left her without formal education.

Since her childhood, she has been helping her family do household work and farming. Astha Maya got married when she was 18 and she is the eldest daughter-in-law. So, she needs to take care of the entire household and also work in the farm. Though she is uneducated she says, “I am a proud farmer. I know how to farm and earning a living from this occupation.”
