Stranded 1,225 Indian pilgrims airlifted to Nepalgunj, Surkhet

KATHMANDU, July 6: The rescue operation of pilgrims to Kailash Mansarovar from different parts of India stranded at Hilsa and Simikot is under way since last Monday. Out of more than fifteen hundred pilgrims, 1,225 pilgrims have been airlifted and brought down to Nepalgunj and Surkhet stated Indian Embassy, Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, July 6: The rescue operation of pilgrims to Kailash Mansarovar from different parts of India stranded at Hilsa and Simikot is under way since last Monday. Out of more than fifteen hundred pilgrims, 1,225 pilgrims have been airlifted and brought down to Nepalgunj and Surkhet stated Indian Embassy, Kathmandu.


Due to bad weather condition, pilgrims were compelled to stay at Hilsa from the very beginning of this week. For the rescue operations of stranded pilgrims, a total of seventy four commercials flights were operated. More than 142 flights were made by the helicopters of Nepali army along the route of Hilsa -Simikot - Nepalgunj.

Likewise, Indian Embassy in co-ordination with tour operators is working to bring 675 pilgrims to Nepalgunj and Surkhet from Hilsa.


An Emergency Control Room, with contact numbers of Embassy Officials, has also been functioning 24X7 since 2nd July to cater the need of the stranded pilgrims and their family members’ queries. The Emergency Control Room is equipped with 8-member multilingual personnel [Hindi/English/Tamil/Telugu/ Kannada/Malayalam language speakers] to avoid language barriers.
