KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Surya Nepal Kathmandu Open, the season-opening event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2022-23 is all set to kick off at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Surya Nepal-sponsored event will be played over 72 holes in which cuts are applied after two rounds (36 holes). Only the top 21 pros and ties will make their journey to the final 36 holes along with amateurs.
Shrestha maintains lead
At the Surya Nepal Kathmandu Open, a total of 31 professional golfers will test their skills for the total prize money of Rs 670,000. The winner of the event will bag Rs 116,000, the runner–up will get Rs 74,000 and the third position holder will get Rs 63,000. Top 21 places and ties will earn prize money. Five Amateurs will rub shoulders with the professionals in this tournament.
Nepal number one and regular on the Professional Golf Tour of India, Sukra Bahadur Rai, Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Dhana Thapa, Sanjay Lama, and Rame Magar are the main contenders. Surya Nepal has been organizing the sport event for the past 15 years, according to the organizer.
