CHITWAN, May 15: The tender for constructing additional infrastructure for the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium in Bharatpur, Chitwan, has been canceled due to budget constraints. Bharatpur Metropolitan City announced the cancellation on Tuesday.
Jagan Nath Aryal, Deputy Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, stated that a new tender will be issued on Thursday. He said that the initial tender was canceled before the financial proposals were opened because the technical proposals did not meet the criteria set by the metropolis.

The initial tender was announced on February 29 with a 30-day deadline and was awarded to MA Construction Pvt Ltd. There was public criticism that the contract criteria were tailored to favor a single company.
Following advice from the Public Procurement Monitoring Office (PPMO), the tender has been canceled and a new tender process will begin, again with a 30-day deadline. Deputy Mayor Aryal mentioned that the new tender aims to finalize an agreement within the current fiscal year.
The metropolis previously issued a tender valued at Rs 1.1 billion, with criteria requiring the selected company to have a turnover of more than Rs 570 million and relevant stadium construction experience. Aryal indicated that the new tender criteria will be more flexible.
The Dhurmus Suntali Foundation, which initiated the construction of the stadium through donations, halted work two years ago due to a debt of Rs 190 million. Since then, the construction has been stalled.
