Thapathali slum area turns tense over removal of slum dwellers (Photo Feature)

KATHMANDU, Nov 28: The squatters’ settlement on the banks of the Bagmati River in the Thapathali area of Kathmandu has become tense over the removal of the slum dwellers.

KATHMANDU, Nov 28: The squatters’ settlement on the banks of the Bagmati River in the Thapathali area of Kathmandu has become tense over the removal of the slum dwellers.


The situation turned tense after the locals pelted stones at the team of Kathmandu Metropolitan City that arrived to remove the squatters’ settlement on Monday. They pelted stones at the team of the metropolis stating that they started removing the structures without making an alternative arrangement.

The slum dwellers, who came out with homemade weapons, are raising slogans against the home minister and the KMC Mayor Balen Shah.


The High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization had issued a notice on November 11 stating that it had given 10 days time to remove the houses and other structures that are built illegally on the river banks.
