Three individuals arrested for protesting in prohibited area

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The police have detained three people who were staging a sit-in at Maitighar on Friday demanding the government to remove Maitighar as a prohibited area.

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The police have detained three people who were staging a sit-in at Maitighar on Friday demanding the government to remove Maitighar as a prohibited area.


Among those arrested are Prem Shah, brother of the deceased Aarti Shah, and Tel Ghale from Gorkha, who was participating in the sit-in. The identity of the third person has not been disclosed. Those three were apprehended by the police when they attempted to burn the banner displaying the sign ‘prohibited area’ in Maitighar.

During the protest, they also chanted slogans such as ‘Remove Maitighar from the list of prohibited areas, ‘Give justice to Aarti Shah, and ‘Down with corrupt army’.


Following the government's declaration of Maitighar Mandala as a prohibited area, protesters who were staging sit-ins at Maitighar were instructed to move to Shantibatika. On Friday morning, the metropolitan police relocated them to Bhrikutimandap from Shantibatika.
