Today’s hearing on HoR dissolution case begins

KATHMANDU, July 1: Today’s hearing on the House of Representatives (HoR) dissolution case has begun at the Supreme Court.


Former Attorney General Agni Kharel began pleading on behalf of Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli at the constitutional bench comprising Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana and senior justices Dipak Kumar Karki, Mira Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Dr Anand Mohan Bhattarai today.

As the pleading on behalf of the government concluded, pleading on behalf of the PM began on Wednesday. On Wednesday, senior advocates Susil Panta, Surendra Bhandari and Bijaykanta Mailani pleaded on behalf of PM Oli.


Of the seven hours given to plead on behalf of the PM, four hours and thirty minutes remain for today.


The pleading on behalf of a writ petition filed by 146 lawmakers including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba completed on Sunday. Petitioners were given 12 hours to make their case. As many as 36 lawyers pleaded during that period.


Once pleading on behalf of the PM concludes, advocates of the house speaker will be given one hour time to make their arguments. Afterwards, the petitioners will answer. Then, pleading for amicus curiae will begin.


The apex court will then pass its verdict on the case.
