Two children injured in IED explosion in Pokhara

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Two teenage children were injured when an  Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded in Pokhara’s Thuldhunga on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Two teenage children were injured when an  Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded in Pokhara’s Thuldhunga on Tuesday.


According to the police, bot the injured children are in stable condition and out of danger although one of them had to undergo surgery to remove shrapnels.


The police said that the two children found the object while playing near their home in Pokhara Metropolitan City ward number-33 Thuldhunga. According to the District Police Office Kaski, 13-year-old Sabin Tamang and 15-year-old Michael Chaudhary were injured when the IED went off.

“They found the object in a nearby bush and brought it home out of curiosity,” said a police official. A police source said that the explosion occurred while they were playing with the object. 


The injured are being treated at the Western Regional Hospital under the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences. Among the injured, Michael Chaudhary had to undergo an operation on Tuesday night, while doctors are observing Sabin Tamang before deciding if he needs to be operated or not. 


Kaski Police Spokesperson Gyan Bahadur Khadka said that metal shrapnels were found on the hands and feet of the injured.


Although Chaudhary has undergone surgery once, he still needs another operation, according to the hospital sources. Tamang’s condition might also require surgery but the doctors are still on a wait and watch mood. The hospital said that both of them are being treated in the general ward.
