Sources said a notice to this effect has also been sent to the Election Commission. Those dismissed from the post of a lawmaker include Madhav Kumar Nepal, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Metmani Chaudhary, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Mukunda Neupane, Laxmi Kumari Chaudhary, Kalyani Khadka, Nira Devi Jairu, Pushpa Kumari Karna, Sarala Yadav, Bhawani Khapung, Birodh Khatiwada, Kalila Khatun and Krishna Lal Maharjan.

Officials at the Election Commission (EC) said a copy of the notice sent to the Federal Parliament Secretariat has also been sent to the EC. The letter sent by the UML states that the positions of 14 lawmakers are now vacant.

The development comes amid preparations by the Nepal-led faction of the UML to form a new political party.  Through a Cabinet meeting held earlier on Tuesday, the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government has already initiated the process to introduce an ordinance to pave the way for the Nepal-led faction of the UML to split the party.
