KATHMANDU, Sept 8: A meeting of the chief district officers (CDOs) of the three districts in Kathmandu Valley held on Tuesday to take decision on the extension of the ongoing prohibitory order ended inconclusively.
According to the Chief Administrative Officer at District Administration Office, Kathmandu, Kamal Prasad Pandey, the CDOs of three districts in Kathmandu Valley will again hold meeting again on Wednesday to decide on new modality of the ongoing prohibitory order in view of the complaints from ordinary people that prolonged lockdown had badly affected their life. “The meeting could not reach any conclusion whether to extend, ease or lift the prohibitory orders as Bhaktapur CDO arrived late and a number of other agendas are yet to be discussed,” said Pandey.
Valley CDOs’ meeting underway to decide on lockdown extension
The three DAOs had enforced a week-long prohibitory orders earlier starting on August 19 midnight which was further extended for two more weeks. The extended order is due to expire on Wednesday midnight.
The meeting held at the Kathmandu District Administration Office mainly dwelled on overall security situation in Kathmandu Valley and effectiveness of the prohibitory order to contain the spread of COVID-19.
CDO of Kathmandu Janak Raj Dahal told Republica that the prohibitory orders will not be lifted immediately. He, however, hinted that it will be relaxed in view of the concerns raised by people from various walks of life.
Kathmandu Valley has continued to witness a sharp rise in the cases of COVID-19 despite the prohibitory order enforced three weeks ago. The Valley reported 396 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday alone taking the total number to 8,580.
