Vote count resumes following removal of returning officer in Dharan Sub-metropolis

DHARAN, July 6: Vote count halted on Monday midnight over ballot miscalculation row has resumed today morning following the all-party agreement to replace the current returning officer  with a new one.

DHARAN, July 6: Vote count halted on Monday midnight over ballot miscalculation row has resumed today morning following the all-party agreement to replace the current returning officer  with a new one.


Returning officer Jaya Prasad  Mahat was removed from his position. Kamal Bahadur Thapa who is the chief of the Area Administration Office, Dharan has been appointed as returning officer in his place.

An electoral alliance led by Maoist Center had accused Election Commission representatives of deliberately adding votes garnered by one candidate to the total votes obtained by another candidate.


This accusation led to the postponement of vote count on Monday midnight.


The ousted returning officer Jaya Prasad  Mahat was accused of failing to play an impartial role in resuming vote counting.
