KATHMANDU, Dec 25: Chairperson of the rival faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday expressed hope that the Supreme Court will deem Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's act of dissolving parliament unconstitutional.

Speaking at a press meet organized by his faction to make public the decisions taken by a central committee meeting, Dahal said that they have faith in the apex court.

"The government's act of dissolving the House of Representatives is against the spirit of the constitution. We hope that the Supreme Court will overturn the government’s decision, calling it unconstitutional," the chairperson said.

Dahal's remarks come at a time when over a dozen writ petitions are under consideration at the Supreme Court against the government's decision to dissolve parliament.

Responding to the writ petitions, a five-member constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana issued a show-cause notice to the Oli government over its decision to dissolve parliament, on Friday afternoon.

Dahal also said that the issue of dissolution of parliament has now reached the streets along with the court.

"If we are forced to launch agitation for the revival of parliament, we are also ready for that. Currently, we are discussing with all the sides including civil society who are against the dissolution of parliament," he said.

During the press meet held at a party venue in Babarmahal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, the other chairperson of the faction, called Prime Minister Oli anti-federalism and anti-republicanism. He also criticised Oli for becoming autocratic.

On Thursday, the Dahal-Nepal faction of the party decided to take to the streets against the government's decision to dissolve parliament.
