KATHMANDU, Sept 1: With 1,069 new cases of coronavirus recorded in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours, Nepal's COVID-19 national tally has surpassed 40,000-mark on Tuesday.
Jageshwar Gautam, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, told at a virtual media briefing that 1,069 new cases of coronavirus were detected through 1,288 PCR tests conducted at various labs across the country in the past 24 hours.
"With fresh cases recorded in the past 24 hours, Nepal's coronavirus tally stands at 40, 529," Spokesperson Gautam said.
Of the newly-infected, 724 are males and 345 are females.

According to Gautam, the Kathmandu Valley alone reported 481 new cases of coronavirus, the highest single-day spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the Valley in the past 24 hours.
As many as 768 persons who earlier tested positive for COVID-19 were discharged after full recovery from various isolation centers and health entities across the country, Spokesperson Gautam said. "With this, the number of people to be discharged after full recovery stands at 22,178," he said.
Even as most of the district administration offices (DAOs) have enforced prohibitory orders to curb the coronavirus transmission, the number of people dying of COVID-19 has kept soaring in recent weeks. In the past 24 hours, at least 11 deaths attributed to novel coronavirus disease were recorded, the spokesperson said.
"With 11 fatalities in past 24 hours, the country's COVID-19 death toll has reached 239," he added.
