With 28 fresh cases today, Kathmandu Valley's COVID-19 tally soars to 267

KATHMANDU, July 7: Amid easing lockdown, the Kathmandu Valley reported 28 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, July 7: Amid easing lockdown, the Kathmandu Valley reported 28 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday.


According to Basudev Pandey, the director of Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Department of Health Services, the eased lockdown is largely contributing to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the Valley.

Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur reported 14, five and 10 cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, according to Pandey. "The number of COVID-19 infected persons who have mentioned their addresses as Kathmandu has climbed to 267," he said.


Kapan, Maharajgunj, Naikap, Budhanilkantha, Chandragiri are major areas in Kathmandu district that have witnessed a significant number of COVID-19 cases. Sallaghari and Changunarayan have recorded COVID-19 cases in Bhaktapur while Chapagaun, Dhobighat, Bhaisepati and Thecho are some of the places which have reported a significant number of cases in recent days. "The growing number of people entering the Kathmandu Valley from other districts and foreign countries has contributed to the spike in the cases of COVID-19 here," he said. On Monday, the Valley reported 54 new cases of COVID-19.
