KATHMANDU, Oct 14: Chinese President Xi Jinping, who flew to Beijing concluding his two-day state visit to Nepal on Sunday, gave some interesting food for thought to the top guns of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) when he stressed the importance of integrity and good governance in a communist party to run the government.
“CPC (Chinese Communist Party) is ruling China not just because it once captured the power during the Cultural Revolution, but because of continuous support from the people for serving them,” a leader present in the meeting quoted Xi as saying during a meeting with NCP secretariat members on Sunday morning. He urged NCP leaders to work toward fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
The address on the need for integrity and good governance in communist parties couldn’t have been better timed as the ruling NCP and its leaders have been landing in controversies, one after another.

Xi, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China, suggested to the Nepali leaders to devote themselves to the service of the people.
Xi sought greater cooperation between the two parties which recently signed an agreement on the expansion of mutual relations and held discussion on Xi Jinping Thought.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, other senior officials of the government of China and China’s ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi were present on the occasion.
NCP Co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, leader Bamdev Gautam, Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, General Secretary Bishnu Poudel and Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali were present in the meeting.
Xi also thanked the ruling party for the warm welcome and hospitality as he stressed the need for similar visits and exchange of ideas between the two parties in future.
CPC and NCP although inspired by similar groups of ideologues are poles apart in their understanding of communism.
Xi, who became the first Chinese president to visit Nepal in 23 years after Jiang Zemin in 1996, observed the signing of various agreements between the two countries before leaving.
