SURKHET, August 27: All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) of the CPN-UML and National Youth Association have demanded that Karnali Province Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi sack the alleged rapist minister, Kumar Raj Shahi from his post of Karnali Province Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives within the next 24 hours. The ANNFSU have warned to stage continuous protests if their demand is not met.
Dhupendra Bahadur Shahi, chairman of ANNFSU and Kamal Khadka, chairman of the Nepal Youth Association issued a press release on Friday, demanding Kumar Raj Shahi’s immediate dismissal.

According to the press release, the youth activist groups have urged the removal of Kumar Raj Shahi from his post to conduct proper investigation into the case. “Instead, journalists are being threatened for covering the news, while the leaders in the government have remained mum on the issue,” reads the press release.
The press release maintains that the involvement of a leader who was appointed to serve the people in such a heinous crime should be handled in a serious way. Also, Chief Minister Shahi has been accused of protecting the alleged rapist Kumar Raj Shahi.
“The disregard to such criminal activity inside the province by the provincial government and their involvement in protecting such criminals has brought shame to the people of Karnali Province. People accused of such heinous crimes should not be allowed to hold their positions in any public office,” the press release states.
A video purportedly of Karnali Province Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Kurmaraj Shahi raping a woman has gone viral on social media platforms. The victim and her husband have lodged a rape complaint against Shahi at the District Police Office, Surkhet.
