245 Nepalis infected by COVID-19 in Bahrain

KATHMANDU, May 6: The number of Nepali nationals infected by the Coronavirus in Bahrain has reached 245.


On its Facebook update, the Embassy of Nepal in Bahrain, said that 88 Nepali migrants workers have been tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and Monday. The Nepalis are undergoing treatment and their condition is normal, the embassy stated.

Earlier last week, the Embassy reported that 157 Nepali workers tested positive for deadly virus since the outbreak of coronavirus.


Likewise, Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) of Bahrain has also announced to grant amnesty to undocumented Nepali migrant workers in Bahrain from April 7 to December 31, 2020, either to get legally registered or to leave Bahrain, according to the Embassy.


The Embassy has also urged Nepalis in Bahrain to contact the Embassy in case of emergency. 


As a measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the Bahraini government has restricted gathering of five or more than five people at public places. One has been advised to use protective masks while going out of their home. 


Schools and educational institutions have been closed until further notice. Public spots like gym, cinema hall, salon, swimming pools, and parks have also been asked to remain shut.
