KATHMANDU, Jan 18: Thirty one staffers including a justice of the Supreme Court have contracted COVID-19.


Baburam Dahal, spokesperson for the Supreme Court, issuing a press statement on Tuesday, informed all that a justice, chief registrar and other staffers have been infected with COVID-19. In view of the increasing risk of COVID-19 infection, the apex court has decided to limit the hearings and other services for two weeks.

The full court meeting called today by the Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana has decided to put its staffers to work alternatively and arrange for remote working in possible fields.


The meeting decided to hear only cases of certain nature till February 1. According to the Supreme Court, only six types of cases will be heard from January 19. According to the decision made by the full meeting of the Supreme Court, habeas corpus and COVID-19 related cases and other cases of urgent nature will be heard in the stated period. 


Meanwhile, the apex court has authorized the high and district courts to take decisions based on the local situation. The high and district courts will now be able to decide whether or not to restrict the flow of court services based on the status of the COVID-19 infection.
