KATHMANDU: Neplay Events on Saturday organized a music concert—Ramaucha Nepal—featuring prominent DJs and bands at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. The theme of the event was ‘To get together and open for fun!’ This is the first open concert organized by Neplay Events, which in future hopes to organize music events internationally. The company has been organizing music events across Australia, Abu Dhabi and Nepal, said one of the organizers of ‘Ramaucha Nepal’ event on Saturday.
From the traditional basuri, madal and tabala to modern drums and base guitars; if you are a classic music lover, jazz addict or a hardcore rock fan, you could easily find your niche here. The event started to performances by DJs like Maniche, Sanil, Bnon, the young beauty Nani, and the legend Pasa. The DJs specialised in electronic, dancehall, idiom, techno and trap. Performances by these established DJs pumped the audience with energy required for what was next in line–performances by established bands like Sakchyam, The Axe, Cobweb and Rohit John Chhetri. A talk with DJ Pasa lamented how the DJing scenario in Nepal is yet to develop. This concert, he added, could possibly start that culture of fair competition.

The first band to perform was Sakchyam, a band that successfully brought to light the importance of melody in traditional folk songs. With the soaring sarangi, the mellifluous basuri, accompanied by the beautiful madal and the magnificent tabala, the band portrayed perfectly how our cultural instruments resonate cordially to produce the sound of Nepali society, thus giving the band a distinct Nepali sound. John, Prince, Biraj, Rishu, Rahul, and Sujit, friends from childhood, form the band.
The Axe was the second band to take the stage, with Shiva Mukhiyaa, Suren Shrestha and Sajal Rajbhandari as band members. With their heavy drums, loud pitch, and the tantalising base guitar, they sent chills through the spines of the audience. After that, the music turned to heavy metal with performances by the band Cobweb: Divesh Mulmiand, Srijan Bikram Gewaliin on the guitar, Nilesh Joshi on bass, Siddartha Dhakhwa on the drums, and Sanjay Aryal as the vocalist.
Rohit John Chhetri was the fifth and final act of the show. In his performance he had Subash, Santosh, Pratik and Mark performing for the first time with him. Their music—a combination of jazz and Nepali folk—bewitched the audience.
