Cabinet declaring those killed during Madhes movement as martyrs today

KATHMANDU, Aug 5:  A Cabinet meeting on Friday is providing martyr status to those killed during the Madhes Movement, compensation to the families of the victims and treatment to the injured. 


A meeting between the government representatives and the leaders of the Federal Alliance (FA) held in Singha Durbar this morning decided to this effect. 


The ruling coalition and the FA had reached a three-point deal before the prime ministerial election. The Cabinet meeting today  is formally endorsing the point number two of the deal, Keshab Jha, general secretary of the Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party, told Republica Online.

The number two of the agreement sates that the newly formed Cabinet will declare those killed during the Madhes movement as martyrs, provide compensation to the victims of the families, treatment to the injured, release those detained and withdraw cases filed against the leaders and cadres without condition. 


Similarly, the meeting also agreed to form a probe committee to look into the cases of violence, murder, arson, vandalism taken during the Madhes Movement and submit a report.


With the FA already a part of the ruling coalition, Jha said, the parties also agreed to resolve the issues related to the constitution amendment  through the formation of a taskforce.
