KATHMANDU, Feb 3: The vote counting to pick the new leadership of Nepal Medical Association (NMA) is being conducted today as well.
Vote counting is currently underway at Bhrikutimandap-based central headquarters of the NMA, according to Dr Yobin Kumar Yadav, the chief election commissioner. The NMA election had started four days ago.

Dr Yadav informed that the election is being held in two different phases. “We had conducted the election of 16 branch offices of the association outside the valley in the first phase which lasted for three days, in which, the voters' turnout was 2851," he said. Similarly in the second phase of voting in Kathmandu Valley, the voters' turnout was 1161 votes, according to him.
According to Yadav, two separate panels of doctors fielded their candidacies for 13 various posts. The democratic panel is led by Dr Lochan Karki and progressive panel is led by Dr Pusphamani Kharal.
Likewise, two independent candidates have also registered their candidacies for the post of general secretary and another two independent candidates have fielded candidacies for the post of members.
The NMA has a total of 9916 eligible voters. The vote counting will conclude on Tuesday.
