KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Three months ago, Jiwan Prasad Bhandari of Chatrakot Rural Municipality-1, Hunga of Gulmi district discovered that both kidneys of his 13-year-old daughter were damaged.

Jiwan had taken his daughter Bandana to a local hospital as she repeatedly complained about fever, headache, vomiting and various other problems. The doctors referred her to a well-equipped hospital.

After reaching Maharajgunj-based TU Teaching Hospital, doctors informed the family that Bandana needs to transplant both of her kidneys. Family members were heartbroken to hear the news. Arranging a large amount of money for transplant is a challenge for them as they hardly manage two square meals.

A month ago, the patient's family opened an account with the number 155001710710 in the name of Laxman Bhandari at Maitidevi branch of Nepal Rastra Bank seeking help for Bandana. However, they have been able to collect only Rs 20,000 so far.

"I have appealed to every person I can for help to save my granddaughter but only few have offered help," laments Laxman Bhandari, grandfather of the patient.
