Five killed, four missing as landslide buries house in Syangja

SYANGJA, Sept 24: At least five people were killed and four went missing after a massive landslide triggered by incessant downpour buried a  house in Waling Municipality of Syangja district early morning Thursday.

SYANGJA, Sept 24: At least five people were killed and four went missing after a massive landslide triggered by incessant downpour buried a  house in Waling Municipality of Syangja district early morning Thursday.


Five dead bodies have been already retrieved from the incident site while search operation is underway to trace the whereabouts of the remaining four others missing in the incident, according to a member of Waling Municipality-14, Gam Prasad Luitel. The incident occured when the landslide buried a house belonging to local Maya Nepali at about 4: 30AM Thursday.

A 10-year old child rescued alive has been taken to Waling Hospital for treatment, according to Waling Municipality Committee Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Rajendra Dumre. A total of 10 members of the family were sleeping in the ill-fated house when the incident took place. 


Locals said nine members belonged to the same family, while one person was a guest. Locals have joined hands in the search and rescue works although incessant rainfall has hampered their efforts.
