KATHMANDU, Jan 9: The government has decided to close schools until January end citing the recent spike in the number of cases of COVID-19.
A meeting of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee (CCMC) held on Sunday, made the decision effective for the primary and secondary schools. Sunita Nepal, spokesperson for the CCMC, said the meeting has decided to close the academic institutions till January 29. “This is expected to break the chain of infection of COVID-19,” Nepal said.

The CCMC meeting has also made it mandatory to carry the vaccinated cards for the individuals visiting public places including movie theaters, parks, hotels, restaurants and air travel, among others. The provision will come into effect from January 17.
Nepal recorded 1,167 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, a steady spike of almost five-folds in less than a week.
