Valley records lowest single-day spike in the last one week


KATHMANDU, Aug 29: As many as 884 more people have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).


Of the 11,516 real time PCR tests carried out at various COVID-19 labs in the country, 642 males and 242 females were found to have contracted the virus, said health ministry Spokesperson Dr Jageshwar Gautam.  As of Saturday afternoon, 669,626 PCR tests have been conducted.

According to the latest updates shared by the ministry during its virtual media briefing earlier today, 313 people, who were undergoing treatment for this infectious disease at various isolation centers across the country, were discharged in the last 24 hours taking the recovery tally to 20,555. The recovery rate stands at 55 percent, shared Dr Gautam.


As of Saturday, as many as 16,578 people are isolated - 6,445 in home isolation and 10,145 in institutional isolation - throughout the country.


Nepal witnessed 6,213 cases in the past week (from August 23 to 29).


Valley records 186 COVID-19 cases


Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley recorded as many as 186 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours. Of them, Kathmandu district alone recorded 155 cases while 19 and 12 other people were diagnosed with this viral disease in Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts.


The Valley has witnessed the lowest single-day COVID-19 count since August 23. It recorded 415 new infections on Friday alone, the highest single-day spike.
