KMC to launch ‘Recharge Kathmandu Program' soon


KMC is planning to launch what it has called ‘Recharge Kathmandu Program’ with a view to avoiding groundwater-related land subsidence by increasing the underground water level of the city. According to its plan, KMC will first choose the open spaces of school buildings, apartments, and hospitals to make a hole in an effort to increase the underground water level of the city to prevent it from subsiding.


NCP's crucial secretariat meeting deferred


A crucial secretariat meeting called by ruling NCP which was scheduled for today afternoon has been deferred until further notice. The meeting was scheduled for 1 pm today to pick department heads of the party and allot responsibilities to the central committee members.

Lawmakers at loggerheads over elderly people’s right to bequeath their property


Lawmakers representing the ruling NCP and the main opposition NC are at loggerheads over certain provisions in the bill on elderly people under consideration at Parliament’s Women and Social Committee. According to the proposed bill on elderly people, the person who takes care of elderly people under severe conditions for at least three years will be entitled to their properties. NC lawmaker Pandey took exception to this provision in the proposed bill.


Two policemen caught red-handed while taking bribe in capital


Two policemen belonging to Metropolitan Police Circle Gaushala were arrested while taking bribe on Wednesday evening. A team from the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority detained sub-inspectors of Nepal Police Ramesh Kumar Pandey and Raju Swarnakar while taking a bribe of Rs 18,000 from the service seekers. 


Govt appoints Purushottam Khanal as NTA chairperson


The government on Thursday has appointed Purushottam Khanal as the chairperson of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). Khanal was working in the capacity of acting chairperson of the NTA following the resignation of his predecessor Digambar Jha. 


Puerto Rico governor resigns after weeks of mass protests


 Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló on Wednesday said he would resign after almost two weeks of protests calling for him to step down over a scandal involving offensive chat messages and government corruption that rocked the bankrupt island. Rosselló said in a televised speech he would stay in his position until Aug. 2 when Puerto Rico Secretary of Justice Wanda Vazquez would take over as governor.
