Total COVID-19 count in Valley stands at 3,262


KATHMANDU, Aug 24: As many as 224 more people were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Kathmandu Valley in the past 24 hours. This is the highest single-day spike of coronavirus cases in the Valley since the country reported the first case earlier on January 24.

Of the newly-confirmed cases, Kathmandu district alone reported 177 cases while 33 and 14 new patients tested positive for this infectious disease in Lalitpur and Bhaktapur in the last one day.


The Valley, which is also the federal capital of the country, has constantly witnessed a sharp increase in new infections day after day. In the last 24 days, a total of 2,911 people have been diagnosed with this disease in the Valley. On the first day of August, 31 cases were reported, however, daily COVID-19 count kept on soaring as a large number of people from outside the Valley started entering the capital city following the government’s decision to lift the 120-day nationwide lockdown.


According to the data compiled by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), a total of 3,262 cases have been confirmed in the Valley as of Monday - 2,579 in Kathmandu, 411 in Lalitpur and 272 in Bhaktapur.


In view of the escalating fear of COVID-19, the district administrations in the Valley have enforced a week-long prohibitory order, suspending all services and activities except those listed as essential ones. The prohibitory order is due to end on Wednesday midnight.
