Kathmandu Valley sees 3,666 cases on Monday alone, 29,265 cases in last 26 days

KATHMANDU, May 3: The three districts in Kathmandu Valley have reported a total of 3,666 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday alone.


According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Kathmandu district added 2,922 new cases while an additional 222 people in Bhaktapur and 522 in Lalitpur were tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.

As the corona graph across the country including the Kathmandu Valley, where the country’s federal capital is situated, is on the rise, as many as 29,265 new infections were detected in the three districts between April 11 and May 3.


The number of people dying of coronavirus infection is also rising at an alarming rate, according to MoHP officials. The Nepal Army, which has been cremating the mortal remains of those dying of this deadly virus, said that at least 84 people succumbed to the disease in the past three days.


“We managed a total of 26 dead bodies from the Kathmandu Valley on Saturday (May 1) alone. Similarly, 31 others were cremated on Sunday (May 2),” said Nepal Army Spokesperson Santosh Ballav Poudel.  “We have been asked to dispose of the mortal remains of 27 patients as of 2 PM today (Monday).”
