KATHMANDU, Dec 13: CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Jhalanath Khanal on Tuesday filed a writ at the Supreme Court demanding reelection in Ilam-1.
Khanal has alleged foul play in electing his main contender CPN-UML’s Mahesh Basnet in the constituency. He has made the Election Commission, election officer of Ilam-1, chief election officer of Ilam, District Election Office, district election officer and the secretariat of the Federal Parliament as the defendants.

In the November 20 election to the members of the House of Representatives, Khanal was defeated by Basnet by a margin of 2,664 votes. Khanal secured 23,089 votes while Basnet garnered 25,753 votes.
