KATHMANDU, Aug 7: The meeting of the National Assembly scheduled for today has been adjourned after the CPN-UML obstructed the meeting by demanding the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate the gold smuggling case.
The UML lawmakers rose from their chairs and constructed the proceeding of the meeting shortly after the meeting began.
National Assembly adjourned for a week after obstruction
Chairman of National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina gave time to the UML lawmaker Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa to speak in the meeting. She said that questions were also raised about the citizenship of Dawa Tsering Sherpa, who was arrested for his involvement in gold smuggling.
She alleged that the CIB had prepared a report with proof that Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara and his son Rahul Mahara were also involved in gold smuggling concealed in vape, but the government was protecting them.
Alleging that the certain government officials are also involved in smuggling, she said that they have demanded the formation of a special investigation committee or parliamentary probe committee to investigate the gold smuggling case as the mastermind of gold smuggling cannot be found out by the existing committee.
However, Chairman Timilsina adjourned the meeting until 1:01 PM on Wednesday, as the UML lawmakers continued further obstruction even after Chairman Timilsina allotted time for Thapa to put forth her views.
