KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The rival faction within the Nepali Congress (NC) led by Ram Chandra Paudel has said that the unilateral decisions taken by the party President Sher Bahadur Deuba would be unacceptable to them.

A meeting of the rival faction leaders held at the residence of NC General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala in Maharajgunj on Saturday also asked President Deuba to withdraw the decisions taken by the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting a day ago.

The meeting boycotted by rival faction had decided to hold the party’s 14th general convention in the third week of February, 2021 and increase the number of party’s central departments to 47, up from the existing 28.

The meeting of rival faction leaders on Saturday decided not to participate in any of the meetings of the party’s CWC until the unilateral decisions are withdrawn.

“I have been proposing to hold the party’s general convention on time for the better future of the party as a whole. There was also an agreement to conclude the adjustment of party’s structures in line with the federal set up before November and start new calendar of general convention from November. But all these suggestions have been ignored,” said Paudel.

While demanding that the party establishment needs to withdraw the unilateral decisions, Paudel said that they will go to the party cadres if those decisions are not revoked. The rival faction has planned to hold meeting of the party’s district committee presidents and the gathering of sister organizations and well-wishers’ organization in order to mount pressure on the establishment faction.

The rival faction leaders have concluded that the decisions taken by the CWC meeting on Friday also go against the revised statute of the party.

Rival faction leaders concluded that the party leadership had posed threats to the party itself.
