NCP leader Agni Prasad Sapkota elected speaker of House of Representatives unopposed

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Nepal Communist Party leader and lawmaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has been elected the speaker of the House of Representatives unopposed, on Sunday afternoon.

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Nepal Communist Party leader and lawmaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has been elected the speaker of the House of Representatives unopposed, on Sunday afternoon.


He was the sole candidate for the post of speaker of the lower house of the Federal Parliament.

On the occasion, senior-most member of the HoR Mahantha Thakur, who chaired today's meeting, announced Sapkota's election to the post.


Former speaker and NCP leader Subas Nembang had proposed Sapkota’s candidacy, while another former speaker Onsari Gharti and NCP chief whip Dev Gurung seconded it.


NCP leader Sapkota, who hails from Sindhuplachowk district, was elected from Sindhapalchowk-1 in the parliamentary election held in December 2017.
