KATHMANDU, Jan 21: The District Administration Office, Kathmandu has said that the decision to enforce an odd-even rule for both public and private vehicles is aimed at discouraging activities that draw crowds of people.
The District Administration Offices of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur have enforced odd-even rules on vehicles plying in the Kathmandu Valley starting Friday midnight amid rising cases of COVID-19.

Umakanta Adhikari, Assistant Chief District Officer at the DAO, Kathmandu, said the rule was deemed necessary to curb activities that draw huge crowds of people. He said that the decision was taken by the DAOs in Kathmandu Valley with the intention of discouraging non-essential activities.
Adhikari clarified that essential services including medical treatment won’t be affected even if the odd-even rule is enforced for vehicles. He expressed confidence that the crowds of people will be minimized once the odd-even rule for vehicles is enforced effectively.
Assistant CDO Adhikari said the DAO is constantly monitoring the implementation of the order. He also urged the people to abide by the order as it is also their duty to contain further spread of the COVID-19.
